General instructions for care

It is very important to us that you have many years’ pleasure from your clothes. We have produced an overview of the most common symbols for you together with instructions on how to care for your garments.

Washing

This symbol tells you whether an item is suitable for washing at home or not, and applies to both machine and hand washing. The numbers inside the washtub tell you the maximum washing temperature in degrees Celsius, and you should not exceed these. A bar underneath the washtub tells you that the item needs gentle treatment in a reduced load and a slower spin speed. Two bars means that the item requires very gentle treatment with minimal mechanical agitation (e.g. wool/silk cycle).

30°C machine washing, easy care

30°C machine washing, easy care

Easy care items made from, e.g. modal, viscose or other synthetic fibres (acryclic, polyester and polyamide). Reduce the load (only fill the drum halfway). Choose the appropriate wash program. To avoid creasing, spin briefly or not at all.

30°C machine washing, coloured

A triangle containing two diagonal lines means that you should only ever use non-chlorine or oxygen bleaches (contained in all-purpose detergents).

Any bleach

Any bleach

An empty triangle also tells you that you can use any kind of bleach, either chlorine or oxygen.

Machine drying

This square is the symbol for the drying process. The circle inside refers to machine drying. Any dots inside the drum refer to the drying temperature.

Do not tumble dry

Do not tumble dry

The item will not stand up to machine drying.

Tumble dry, low heat

Tumble dry, low heat

Tumble dry with caution. Choose a gentle cycle with less agitation (temperature, duration).

Tumble dry, medium

Tumble dry, medium

The item is suitable for tumble drying on a normal setting with no restrictions.

Ironing

Dots inside the iron refer to the temperature (control dial irons, steam irons, travel irons and ironing machines). Irons currently available usually assign specific settings to specific types of fabric.

Do not iron

Do not iron

Ironing may damage the fabric or produce changes that cannot be rectified.

Iron on low heat

Iron on low heat

Also corresponds to the “Acrylic, nylon, acetate” temperature setting. Where necessary, iron shiny or pressure-sensitive fabrics using a dry press cloth or iron on the reverse. Be cautious if using a steam iron (it is generally best to iron without steam). Do not distort the fabric.

Iron on moderate heat

Iron on moderate heat

Also corresponds to the “Wool/silk/polyester/viscose” temperature setting. Iron using a damp press cloth. Steam irons can be used. Avoid intense pressing. Do not distort the fabric.

Iron on high heat

Iron on high heat

Also corresponds to the “Cotton/linen” temperature setting. Iron while damp, adding moisture as needed. Iron shiny or pressure-sensitive fabrics using a dry press cloth or iron on the reverse. Steam irons can be used.

Professional textile care / dry cleaning

The circle symbol defines whether and how dry cleaning is advisable. Letters inside the circle are primarily instructions for professional textile cleaners and provide information about the solvents to be used. A bar underneath the circle means that the cleaning process must run with a reduced mechanical load, humidity, bath and/or drying temperature. When selecting a cleaning process, the professional cleaner must also take into account the nature of the fabric and the degree of soiling (normal/special cleaning).
